Unlike real pirates, the pirates that exists in the CopyPirate universe are merely merchants who run afoul of nation-states' laws, usually copyright law. Feared by most people in the universe, they are treated as outlaws.

However, in their own nations, these pirates display a level of civility and civilization that's unrivaled in the history of humanity and any place on earth. This has led to unusual cultural characteristic.

The first characteristic is a strong preference and confident for arbitration and settle of disputes through courts. They're so confident in their court system that they thought it could even make ghosts agree to a reasonable court's ruling.(Of course, they didn't realize that ghosts are merely traces of powerful wizards that have died long ago)
